It was a like bolt of lighting when it came to me! The FEELING of persistence is not the same FEELING of consistance. One made me feel boxed in, like I had to just perform for performance sake, the other feel liberating. I perform when I want to not when I calender or schedule tells me too. In fact I don’t keep a calender, not on my walls, nor digitally. I don’t even have a clock! It just took some serious gut wrenching battles within my being to unlock the truth!
Yes, the thing is that I’ve often been advised, like in writing classes, that to be a writer, you need to keep to a schedule and just sit down and write even when you’re not inspired. But what can happen is that my creative energy and ideas come in waves at unexpected times and if I tell myself, “No, be disciplined and finish this important task and then you can get back to it.” It disappears like a dream. Even if I took notes on my ideas, the energy and flow aren’t there anymore.
I am not always able to act on an inspired that WHEN it comes. So, I used an old email account as my incurabtor. Even in the middle of the night, if I awake with a particularly good idea, I will speak it into an email that I send myself. And when I am ready, the idea is still powerful- and that's when I take action.
Ahhh I’m so glad it landed for you! That reframe changed everything for me too—I’m not inconsistent, I’m persistent. And that’s powerful. Here’s to honoring the rhythm that actually works for us.
Love this! Just the reframe of my way of living that I needed!
Yes! I’ve always thought of those words as synonyms, but they’re not! We might disappear for a while, but we always come back!
